Lived Experience Connection and Action Project

Opportunities, Lived Experience Leadership

LELAN are proud to announce a new project we have secured funding for. The Lived Experience Connection and Action Project will support the involvement of even more people with lived/living experience in their communities and with services. Below is an invitation for people from the lived experience community to get involved and help us co-create resources and a peer network for people actively using their lived experience for change. We hope you will join us.

About this opportunity:

LELAN is being supported by the Mental Health and Wellbeing Directorate, Wellbeing SA, to co-create the Lived Experience Connection & Action Project with people with lived experience of distress or mental health issues.

The Lived Experience Connection and Action Project (the Project) will invite people with lived experience to co-create information and guides for people with lived experience wanting to support and/or get active in improving their communities or with their family and friends.

The information and guides will highlight the important roles that people with lived experience can have during uncertain times and life disruptions, encouraging and providing a how-to on actively connecting with others and/or influencing change in informal and networked ways.

A skill development workshop and ‘getting started strategy session’ drawing on the Just Listening approach will also be offered through the Project.

The co-created resources and guides will be available online and a network of people called to action will be formed that LELAN will continue to convene and provide learning, development and networking opportunities to.

How people with lived experience can get involved:

We are seeking eleven people with lived experience to be involved in the co-creation of the information and guides. Two co-design sessions (5 hours each) and one consolidation session (two hours) will be held online via Zoom during June. People will be remunerated $30 per hour for sharing their expertise and helping guide this important work (express interest here).

Anyone who is actively using (or wanting to use) their lived experience in their communities or with family and friends will be invited to be part of a Lived Experience Connection and Action Network. The Network will begin meeting online via Zoom from late July .

The Just Listening Workshop and ‘getting started strategy session’ is open to anyone with an interest in developing skills for connecting with others and/or learning more about the steps they can take to take action in ways that are important and doable for them. These sessions will be held online via Zoom on Wednesday June 24th. You can register for these interactive workshops here.

About the co-design and consolidation sessions:

The co-design and consolidation sessions will be held online via Zoom. They will be highly interactive and will support the co-creation of information and guides supporting people with lived experience to connect and get active in improving their communities or with family and friends.

The sessions are scheduled for:

     – Co-creation Session One: Friday June 19th, 10am-3pm

     – Co-creation Session Two: Friday June 26th, 10am-3pm

     – Consolidation Session: Tuesday June 30th

Your invitation to get involved:

Please express your interest (EOI) via SurveyMonkey. EOIs close Tuesday June 9th at 5pm and people will be notified Wednesday June 10th about next steps. We expect to receive more requests to participate than places so encourage you to express your interest early.

We are really excited by this work and can’t wait to see what the co-creation group develop. We know the result will be valuable resources for the lived experience community to draw on for a long time to come (apply here). We know that the Just Listening Workshop will also contribute to the richness of the resources and the lived experience community supporting each other.

Complete the Expression of Interest questions here. Applications close Tuesday June 9th at 5pm.
