Our online community
These forums allow people with lived experience of distress and/or mental health issues (consumers and/or carers) and our allies to connect and contribute together. This is a place to come together and talk about what matters to us, provides an opportunity to inform our advocacy, peer and leadership efforts as well as share resources for driving systemic change.
We are the people who speak up and we stand up; or we are working out how to do that in ways that are good for us. We are the changemakers.
These forums are not focused on providing individual support. The SANE Forums provide a platform for seeking and providing support, asking questions and sharing stories. They have forums for people with lived experience as well as carers.
Hi all,
Thought I'd post this fed. govt. press release as it struck me it shows what an incredibly ripe time, in terms of movement at a national level, it is for LELAN to be working to provide more of a medium for the views of people with a lived experience of suicidality through the LfLE project and related work (see here for a brief LfLE project description).
I'm not necessarily endorsing any particular action or statement in the release, but Ms Morgan's approach of highlighting the importance of seeking the views of, and co-designing approaches based on the views of, people with lived experience are exciting and, as I say, may represent excellent timing!
The bit LELAN really liked about the announcement was:
“In talking to individuals and communities over the past six months, it has been clear to me that we need to co-design our suicide prevention approach in a way that is led by those with lived and living experience of suicide,” Ms Morgan said.
“We often think about services and systems and what is available, rather than truly understand what people need and what has worked, and not worked, for them in the past. We need to put people back at the centre of policies and planning.”'
It feels like we have a great opportunity with this project and that our particular focus on times of distress and crisis - what helped, what harmed and what people want - is great timing.
